Descarte's dog was called 'Mr Scratch'

Descartes  had a pet dog, named Monsieur Grat (Mr Scratch). The philosopher greatly valued the dog’s company on walks; he evidently treated him with affection and, some say, he even talked with him. But that is the the sort of thing people do, whenever their metaphysical position on agency and sentience, is put to the test.
