The 'Oracle machines' that are search engines

One of the glories of the web – and the reason that totalitarians hate it – is that it resists restraint, defies censors and eludes sabotage. That is why this pulsingly powerful technology is among the most transformative forces in human history.

Alan Turing described search engines as “oracle machines” in that they become more knowledgeable with every human selection.

However, as Mathew D'Ancona  points out,  the State would do well for our children if they were to police the sexually explicit material that is accessible on digital devices.

Call me a Luddite, but personally, I despise aspects of the digital revolution.  To look at the populace head down
scanning their cell phones, is to witness people being manipulated for money. While young turks from Silicon Valley reap in the billions.  One feels swamped by crude, young American culture.
